FEMS Research and Training Grants

Research and Training Grants (formerly known as FEMS Research Grants) are meant to assist early career scientists in pursuing research and training at a European host institution in another country than their own country of residence. These grants are intended to support travel and living costs of the Grantee only. Support is limited to a maximum of  € 4 000.

Applicants

Applicants should be active microbiologists, having obtained their highest degree less than five years prior to the application deadline date or be a PhD student. They should be a member of a FEMS Member Society. You can find a detailed overview of the requirements for this grant in the FEMS Grants Regulations.

Grant Application

Complete applications should be submitted on or before:

  • 1 January for projects that will start within a year from the following 1 March
  • 1 July for projects that will start within a year from the following 1 September

FEMS Meeting Organizer Grants

FEMS supports selected meetings within the European Area with a Meeting Organizer Grant. Scientific conferences, laboratory workshops and training courses will be considered for such support. The maximum amount of a Meeting Organizer Grant is € 15 000. The Meeting Organizer Grant replaces two of our former grants: National and Regional Congresses Grant and the Meeting Grants.

A minimum of 60% of total grant value of the Meeting Organizer Grant is to be used to support the attendance of Early Career Scientists.

To apply for the Meeting Organizer Grant, complete the following forms and send them to grants@fems-microbiology.org:

Deadlines

  • 1 December 2017 for meetings taking place between 1 February 2018 and 31 January 2019
  • 1 June 2018 for meetings taking place between 1 August 2018 and 31 July 2019

FEMS Meeting Attendance Grants

Meeting Attendance Grants enable early career researchers to attend microbiology meetings worldwide to network, collaborate and keep abreast of new developments in their field. Support is limited to a maximum of € 600.

Eligibility

Applicants should be active microbiologists, having obtained their highest degree less than five years prior to the application deadline date or be a PhD student. They should be a member of a FEMS Member Society and a presenting author (oral or poster) at the meeting.

Grant Application

Complete applications should be submitted on or before the deadlines

  • 1 March for meetings that will be held within a year from the following 1 May
  • 1 September for meetings that will be held within a year from the following 1 November
